Grace Elizabeth Wood passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Llano, Texas at the age of 86.She was born June 7, 1931 in San Saba, Texas to George Cagle and Maddie (Smith).Grace was a resident of Llano for over 30 years, since coming from Austin, Texas, and was of the Baptist faith.She moved to Country Oaks Assisted Living in 2010, where she enjoyed visiting with her buddies, playing bingo and occasionally taking some of their pennies in the weekly poker games.James and Velma started a family in 1950 with the birth of their first son, Jim, followed by Craig in 1953 and Leann in 1954.After a brief time in Dallas, James and Velma moved their family to San Antonio in 1957.Hische and Grace Obaugh Hische, Frances and her sister Nan moved around as children but considered Galveston, Texas, where they graduated from Ball High School, as their home.Not long after graduation, Frances married Warren Franklin ‘Skeeter’ Merritt Jr.
He was never happier than when on family vacations spent in a fishing cabin on his uncle’s ranch on the Llano River, and later, during times spent at family gatherings with the grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Llano City Cemetery at P. A memorial service will be held at San Pedro Presbyterian Church at a time to be determined later.

James was preceded in death by his father, Rufas Warren Deats, and his mother, Dokie Long Deats.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Ann; his beloved wife, Velma; his children, James Alan Deats, Bruce Craig Deats (wife Lydia), and Leann Deats Howerton (husband Lance); his six grandchildren, Taylor Deats, Doke Cole Deats, Lauren Howerton Mitchell, Lisa Howerton Becton, Caleb Hayes-Deats, and Caroline Deats Sanchez; and by four great grandchildren (with three more to arrive later this year).
He took a job with Otis Elevator, working for Otis until his retirement in 1990.
